Social performance entails implementing good working practices in all relations with stakeholders. It includes well-being and competence of the personnel, product safety and consumer protection, and fluid teamwork within the corporate network. It also includes cooperation with local communities, sponsorship and other activities for the public good.
Social performance in Wärtsilä Corporation is monitored on the basis of the legislation in force in the countries where the Group operates, and also in accordance with Wärtsilä’s Management system, including the company’s Policy for Quality, Health & Safety & the Environment, and the key performance indicators applied in the human resources field. As locally applied rules differ widely from country to country, it is difficult to describe in brief the social performance of the Group and its more than 70 subsidiary companies. The descriptions of certain processes in this chapter must therefore be seen as examples representing how certain issues are handled rather than as a complete picture of the situation.
