Stability services and peaking

Stability services and peaking

Our 1…300 MW oil & gas fired power plants can start and ramp up to full load very rapidly, in less than 10 minutes. They can start up a grid or a large power plant after shut down, without any external input of energy.

Due to very high simple cycle efficiency on part and full load, they can provide very competitive power regulation and spinning reserve services to large grids, which both require operation on partial load. These very same same plants can be used for peaking services during peak electricity demand hours. Due to the high efficiencies and consequential low generation costs, our power plants create more revenues for its operators.  The main fuel can be gas, LFO, HFO or a multi-fuel combination of these.

There are more than 2350 engines installed in 445 Wärtsilä stability, peaking and stand-by power plants, keeping the transmission grid systems stable at all conditions.

Our  gas power plants and oil power plants are value engineered for your load profile, ambient conditions and fuels, and for 1000-8000 operating hours per year. The lower generation costs and minimal environmental impact will guarantee that your Wärtsilä power plant will always be dispatched first and disengaged last.
