Wärtsilä solution
P&O Nedlloyd Southampton and her three sister ships are propelled by a Sulzer 12RTA96C engine developing 65,880 kW at 100 rpm. This is the first 12-cylinder RTA96C engine to have entered service.
Before this class of containerships, P&O Nedlloyd and its predecessor companies had already taken delivery of many vessels powered by Sulzer low-speed engines. To date, the P&O Nedlloyd group has 21 ships in service or on order with Sulzer RTA96C engines, of which eight are of the RT-flex type with common-rail fuel injection.
