In 1995 and 1996 The Royal Netherlands Navy ordered four LCF Air Defence Frigates from Dutch shipbuilder Royal Schelde Group. The vessels’ main operational role is area air defence together with command and control of a task force. The first of the class was commissioned in April 2002, the second in March 2003, and the last ship in 2005.
Wärtsilä solution
Wärtsilä worked very closely with the Royal Netherlands Navy to make sure that the Wärtsilä 16V26 ST cruise diesel engines would comply with the range of naval-specific requirements for the project such as shock, reduction of airborne noise and environmental conditions.
