Steersafe bearing

Steersafe is a bearing system designed for rudders and steering gear for all types of vessels. Rudder bearings can be finish machined and fitted directly into a machined skeg or boss. Alternatively, the bearing can be supplied in a housing, positioned in the rough cast hole, aligned and cast in place with resin. This allows the bearings to be changed when necessary without the need for further re-alignment.

The material is a thermosetting resin with added solid lubricants, reinforced with a woven synthetic fibre. It has excellent stability in water, very low “stick-slip” characteristics, is class approved for dry running, and has high comprehensive and impact strength. Testing to both wet and dry running specifications showed that Steersafe exhibited just one third of the wear of its nearest competitor.
