Manesafe bulkhead seals ensure the integrity of watertight bulkheads where penetrated by the main and auxiliary propulsion shafts. Under normal conditions the diaphragm seal rotates along with the shaft within its housing. Thanks to its unique design it produces negligible heat and causes no wear on the shaft itself. Shaft liners are only required for composite shafts. The seal is bi-directional and can be fitted on whichever side of the bulkhead is more convenient.
The bulkhead seal works automatically in the event of flooding. Increased water pressure in the compartment forces the diaphragm seal against the housing assembly, thus effectively forming a watertight seal and protecting the adjacent compartment from flooding.
